Spring Classes Recap
PARENTED had a busy spring! We held two courses so far and are wrapping up the season with a much needed class with Kaitlin Lytle on Picky Eating (every day at meal time I think this class can’t come soon enough!)
Our courses in 2024 so far:
We offered both classes multiple times in various formats and learned SO much:
Virtual isn’t great and we likely won’t continue to offer that format. It’s a bummer because it’s more convenient for parents who by definition are super busy and it’s a great way to test the waters….but it’s just not engaging and misses on one of our main objectives, building community. Could consider hybrid some day…maybe.
Scheduling is tricky, especially with surprise warm MN weekends and hockey tournaments...weekday evenings are likely the best time, but not too late because we need our sleep!
Workshop format is preferred to lecture style
Classes held at a home are nice and cozy, but I may need a bigger house :)
We all love a deal! Sales and discount strategies actually do work.
We are not alone! So many of us have similar struggles and can learn from each other, some groups are more chatty than others, it all just depends on the vibe that day!
I’m so grateful for this year to test and pivot!
Pro-tips from both classes:
Behavior is communication
“Flip their lid” is a phrase but also matches reality when we are anxious
Reframing thoughts is important for all of us
Food can impact anxiousness which impacts poop which impacts our anxiousness….it’s a vicious cycle
Family meetings are important, start them young
Align on a few consequences, consistency is key
Try to calm your child before attempting any sort of reasoning
Reframe discipline as teaching
Unwind what we think is a cultural norm or expectation (we don’t have to correct our kids in public, sorry grandma)
Here’s a couple notables and pictures from the season:
100% learned something new across all classes
“I learned so much from Claire on how to support my child who has some anxious tendencies! The session was only 90 minutes, but I left feeling empowered with new tools and techniques to handle tough situations in the future! Need a part 2!
“10/10 would attend another class by Jen again!”
“Jen gave practical examples and individual advice that I can use right away.”
Thanks Claire Lowe and Jen Kiss for testing these classes out with PARENTED. Grateful for your partnership and wisdom!
Check out our upcoming classes on Picky Eating with Kaitlin Lytle and in the fall, Jen’s back for a six week series, Parenting a Neurodiverse Child + more in the works on supporting tween/teen girls (details coming soon!)
Thanks for reading, enjoy every second of summer!
